What is Liu Yao Divination?
Liu Yao (Six Lines) divination comes from the I Ching. Three coins are cast six times to build a primary and a changing hexagram, which is then fitted with the Self/Other lines, Six Relatives, Six Spirits and stem-branch assignments to judge one specific matter — it answers questions, it does not read a life.

Overview of Liu Yao
Liu Yao divination rests on the I Ching. Casting the hexagram, fitting it with stems and branches, then reading it together predict how one specific matter will turn out.
Trigram Basics
The eight trigrams are the I Ching's basic symbols, built from yin and yang lines in groups of three, and arranged in the Earlier Heaven and Later Heaven sequences.
The Sixty-Four Hexagrams
The sixty-four hexagrams pair the eight trigrams two at a time, six lines to each. They are the basic frame of Liu Yao, and each carries its own meaning and use.
The Najia Method
Najia fits the stems and branches onto a hexagram's lines. It is the core technique of Liu Yao, and it is what gives the hexagram its Five Element relationships.
The Six Relatives
The Six Relatives — Parent, Sibling, Offspring, Wife-Wealth and Officer-Ghost — are the core of reading a hexagram, each standing for a different class of person, thing or matter.
Self and Other Lines
The Self line stands for the person asking, the Other line for the person or matter asked about. Their relationship is where every Liu Yao judgement starts.
The Six Spirits
The Six Spirits — Azure Dragon, Vermilion Bird, Hooked Array, Coiling Snake, White Tiger and Dark Warrior — attach to the six lines and colour the reading with detail.
The Useful God
The Useful God is the central concept in reading a hexagram: the line chosen to stand for the matter asked about. Whether it is strong or weak decides the outcome.
How a Hexagram Is Read
Reading is the final step, weighing the Useful God's strength, the moving lines, the effect of the day and month, and harmony or clash between branches.
Moving and Changed Lines
A moving line is where the hexagram changes, and it drives how a situation develops. What it turns into becomes the changed line, showing where the matter is heading.
