Plum Blossom Numerology

Mei Hua Yi Shu Divination

Plum Blossom divination turns a number, a short piece of text or the present moment into a hexagram, then reads the relationship between the Body trigram (you and the matter's subject) and the Function trigram (the circumstances acting on it). The tool derives the Body and Function trigrams, their generating or controlling relationship, and the nuclear and changing hexagrams.

Take a Moment to Calm Your Mind

Close your eyes, take three deep breaths, and focus your attention on the question you want to ask. A calm mind leads to a clearer reading.

Divination Principles
One Question Per Divination

Ask only one thing at a time; the more specific, the better

Sincerity Brings Clarity

Approach with genuine intention for the most accurate reading

Don't Ask the Same Question Twice

Trust the first reading; repeated queries dilute the answer

The chart is calculated in your browser. Birth details are not uploaded or stored.

What you need to provide

  • A question — short and specific, held in mind as you cast.
  • One casting input: two numbers, a short piece of text, the current time, or a random draw.
  • Nothing else — no birth data is used. Plum Blossom reads the moment, not the person.

What the tool gives you

  • The Body trigram and Function trigram, with which is which clearly marked.
  • The Five Element relationship between them — whether Function generates, controls, or is controlled by Body — which drives the favourable or unfavourable reading.
  • The nuclear hexagram (the process in the middle) and the changing hexagram (where the matter is heading).

How to use it

  1. Write down your question, keeping it to a single matter.
  2. Pick a casting method: two numbers, a short text, the current time, or a random draw.
  3. Read the Body and Function trigrams first, then the relationship between them, then the nuclear and changing hexagrams for the process and the outcome.

How it's calculated

  • Numbers (or the current moment) are reduced modulo eight to pick the upper and lower trigrams, and modulo six to find the moving line.
  • The hexagram splits into Body (ti) and Function (yong): the trigram containing the moving line is Function, the other is Body; their five-element relation is the core judgment.
  • The nuclear hexagram shows the process and the changed hexagram the outcome — no birth data is used at all.

What this tool does not do

Plum Blossom is a traditional interpretive method built on symbolism, not a measurement of the future. It reads the moment of asking, so the same question at another moment yields another hexagram. It does not replace medical, legal or financial advice, and no result here should be treated as a decision on its own.

Common questions

How is Plum Blossom different from Liu Yao?

Both answer a single question, but they read different things. Liu Yao assigns stems, branches and Six Relatives to the six lines and judges the useful god's strength. Plum Blossom stays with the trigrams: it reads the Body and Function relationship through the Five Elements, which makes it faster to cast and lighter to interpret.

What numbers or text should I use?

Whatever genuinely comes to mind at the moment of asking — the method treats the number or phrase as an expression of that moment rather than as data about you. Any positive integers work; text is converted by stroke or character count. Choosing deliberately to engineer a hexagram defeats the method.

Do I need my birth date?

No. Plum Blossom takes nothing from your birth chart — it reads the moment the question is asked. If you want an analysis grounded in your own chart instead, use the BaZi or Zi Wei Dou Shu calculators on this site.
