What is Ten Gods (Shi Shen)?

The Ten Gods take the Day Master as the reference point and sort every other stem's generation, control and likeness relation to it into ten symbols: Friend, Rob Wealth, Eating God, Hurting Officer, Direct Wealth, Indirect Wealth, Direct Officer, Seven Killings, Direct Resource and Indirect Resource. Matching polarity gives the indirect form, opposing polarity the direct one.

How it is used in a BaZi reading

The Ten Gods translate abstract elemental interaction into readable human terms — Direct Officer for rules and office, Direct and Indirect Wealth for how income arrives, Eating God and Hurting Officer for expression and creativity, the Resource stars for support and study, Friend and Rob Wealth for peers and competition. Almost every statement about career, money and family runs through them.

Interpretive limits

The Ten Gods describe tendency and structure; they do not predict specific events. A classical combination such as "Hurting Officer meets Officer" marks a tension worth watching, not an outcome bound to occur.
