Four Transformations Flying Stars
Four Transformations Flying Stars (Si Hua Fei Xing) is one of the most distinctive inference methods in Zi Wei Dou Shu. Triggered by the Heavenly Stems, it causes specific stars to undergo four types of transformations — Lu, Quan, Ke, and Ji — and serves as a key tool for determining the fortune of a destiny and the occurrence of events.
Meanings of the Four Transformations
- Hua Lu - Represents wealth, smooth progress, interpersonal rapport, and opportunities. When Hua Lu enters a particular palace, it indicates that the domain represented by that palace will experience favorable development and rewards.
- Hua Quan - Represents authority, control, competition, and effort. When Hua Quan enters a particular palace, it indicates that one will have dominance and influence in that domain.
- Hua Ke - Represents fame, benefactors, academic achievement, and reputation. When Hua Ke enters a particular palace, it indicates that one will gain a good reputation or receive assistance from benefactors in that domain.
- Hua Ji - Represents obstacles, fixation, loss, and disputes. When Hua Ji enters a particular palace, it indicates that the domain will experience difficulties or require greater effort.
Levels of the Four Transformations
Birth Year Four Transformations: Determined by the Heavenly Stem of the birth year, these represent the basic structure and innate conditions of an entire lifetime, and their influence is the most enduring.
Major Limit Four Transformations: Determined by the Heavenly Stem of the major limit, these influence the fortune of a ten-year period and serve as an important basis for assessing the fortune of each decade.
Annual Pillar Four Transformations: Determined by the Heavenly Stem of the Annual Pillar, these influence the fortune of the current year and are key to determining major events of that year.
Interpreting the Palaces the Four Transformations Fly Into
The power of the Four Transformations lies not only in which palace they enter, but more importantly in the relationship between the targeted palace and the Life Palace (Ming Gong). For example:
- Hua Lu entering the three-sided frame of the Life Palace: flourishing financial fortune
- Hua Ji entering the Life Palace: many personal troubles and afflictions
- Hua Ji entering the Travel Palace (clashing the Life Palace): the most severe impact
- Hua Ke entering the Career Palace: assistance from benefactors at work
Self-Transformation and Flying Transformation
When the Heavenly Stem of a palace triggers the Four Transformations of the stars within that same palace, it is called a "self-transformation," representing an outward dissipation of that palace's energy. Flying the transformations into other palaces is called a "flying transformation," which forms the foundation of palace-stem flying transformations in advanced Zi Wei techniques.
