Zhuge Liang, courtesy name Kongming, was born in 181 CE in Yangdu, Langya. He is one of the most celebrated statesmen, military strategists, and inventors in Chinese history, renowned as the Chancellor of Shu Han. Acclaimed for his exceptional political and military talents and his inventions, he proposed the "Longzhong Plan" strategy, assisted Liu Bei in founding Shu Han, and led the southern campaign and multiple northern expeditions until the final moments of his life.

BaZi Chart

Core Analysis

Zhuge Liang's BaZi chart centers on a Ren Day Master, shaped by Indirect Resource (the generative dynamics of Water, Wood, Fire, Earth, and Metal among the year stem Geng and the month branch Shen-Zi), as well as by Friend and Seven Killings. Indirect Resource nourishes the Day Master, reflecting his profound knowledge, strategic acumen, and independent thinking; the concurrent presence of Friend underscores his personal resolve and leadership.

Wisdom and Strategy

With a structure governed by Indirect Resource, Zhuge Liang possessed broad learning and a gift for planning. His proposal of the "Longzhong Plan" and his numerous strategic deployments offer ample historical proof of this.

Loyalty and Responsibility

The Day Pillar and Luck Pillars show an interplay between Friend and Direct Officer, emphasizing his deep sense of responsibility and loyalty to his sovereign — the hallmark of one who would "bend to the task unto death."

Appointing Personnel and Governing the State

His chart features configurations of Direct Resource and Indirect Resource alongside Officer stars, favoring an ability to judge character, appoint the right people, and establish systems of governance. In execution, however, he leaned toward caution and emphasized institutional management.

Military Action and Decisiveness

The presence of Seven Killings and Rob Wealth in the chart reveals decisive command in battle and a careful balance between offense and defense. Yet because a strong Indirect Resource prizes intellect over power, his decisions were at times constrained by hesitation and logistical limitations.

Life Timeline

Age 4: A Loving Mother Lost, Early Hardships Begin

In the Annual Pillar of Jia Zi, the heavenly stem Jia Wood, an Eating God, clashed with the year pillar's heavenly stem Geng Metal, an Indirect Resource. The Resource star represents the mother, elders, and protection; when clashed, the foundation is shaken — an inauspicious sign.

Age 8: The Father Falls, the Family Declines

In the Annual Pillar of Wu Chen, a stem-clash-and-branch-clash formed against the Day Pillar of Ren Xu. This is a classic signal of violent upheaval in BaZi analysis.

Age 14: Following His Uncle to Yuzhang, Glimpsing a World in Flux

In the Annual Pillar of Jia Xu, the heavenly stem Jia Wood, an Eating God, revealed itself and directly clashed with the Geng Metal Indirect Resource in both the Year and Hour Pillars — a pattern known as "the Eating God controlling the Resource." The Resource star represents elders, protection, and one's native environment; being clashed signified leaving his homeland to follow an elder (his uncle, Zhuge Xuan) in relocation.

Age 17: A Hidden Dragon in the Abyss, Biding His Time

In the Annual Pillar of Ding Chou, the heavenly stem Ding Fire, a Direct Wealth, appeared — a favorable element in the chart — signaling that talent and opportunity were beginning to emerge. The Annual Pillar's branch, Chou Earth, a Direct Officer, combined with the Water of Zi in the Month and Hour Pillars to form the Zi-Chou combination into the Officer star, channeling the chart's powerful Water force (Rob Wealth) into the Officer star (career and renown).

Age 21: Encountering Shui Jing at Xinyeo, the Names of the Sleeping Dragon and the Fledgling Phoenix Spread

In the Annual Pillar of Xin Si, the heavenly stem Xin Metal, a Direct Resource, served as an unfavorable element, governing overthinking, dependence, and information from benefactors. The branch Si Fire, an Indirect Wealth, was precisely the regulatory favorable element the chart needed, representing new opportunities and resources.

Age 31: Holding Jingzhou, Standing on His Own

In the Annual Pillar of Xin Mao, the Direct Resource energy was exceptionally strong. The Resource star governs deliberation, planning, and responsibility — perfectly fitting his role of holding the rear, devising strategy, and orchestrating campaigns from behind the scenes.

Age 34: Securing the Western Riverlands, A Meeting of Dragon and Tiger in the Storm

The chart itself carries a forceful pattern of the Yang Blade driven by Seven Killings, signifying conquest and expansion. The Annual Pillar's heavenly stem, Jia Wood, an Eating God, clashed with the Geng Metal Indirect Resource in the Year and Hour Pillars, forming the "Eating God controlling the Resource" configuration.

Age 35: Taking the Helm, Laying the Foundation

In the Annual Pillar of Jia Wu, the Wu Fire Wealth star strengthened the Ji Earth Direct Officer within the Annual Pillar's branch. Moreover, Wu Fire also served as the regulatory favorable element, bringing warmth and vitality to the entire chart.

Age 39: The Dragon Rises in Hanzhong, Urged to Take the Throne

In the Annual Pillar of Ji Hai, the Ji Earth Direct Officer appeared in the heavenly stem, directly activating the Ji Earth Direct Officer in the chart's Hour Pillar, thereby vastly amplifying the Officer star's strength.

Age 41: The Dragon Leaps from the Abyss, Ascending the Throne: Crowned King of Hanzhong, Elevated to Emperor, and Entrusted with the Orphaned Heir as Chancellor

In the Annual Pillar of Xin Chou, alongside the Luck Pillar of Ren Chen, the stems and branches of the Annual Pillar and the Luck Pillar were identical — a formation known as "the Annual Pillar and Luck Pillar concurrent," marking a pivotal life juncture in which both fortune and misfortune are magnified. For the chart holder, the auspicious signs this year were pronounced.
