Overview of Zi Wei Dou Shu

Zi Wei Dou Shu is one of the five traditional Chinese metaphysical arts. It is said to have been founded by Chen Tuo, a master of the Song dynasty, and was developed and refined over successive generations, eventually becoming a mainstream system of destiny analysis on par with BaZi.

Core Principles

Based on a person's year, month, day, and hour of birth, Zi Wei Dou Shu employs a rigorous set of mathematical and deductive rules to arrange over one hundred stars across twelve palaces, generating a unique chart (Ming Pan).

Basic Elements

1. Fourteen Major Stars (Zhu Xing) - Zi Wei, Tian Ji, Tai Yang, Wu Qu, Tian Tong, Lian Zhen, Tian Fu, Tai Yin, Tan Lang, Ju Men, Tian Xiang, Tian Liang, Qi Sha, and Po Jun.
2. Twelve Palaces (Shi Er Gong) - Life Palace (Ming Gong), Siblings Palace, Spouse Palace, Children Palace, Wealth Palace, Health Palace, Travel Palace, Friends Palace, Career Palace, Property Palace, Karma Palace, and Parents Palace.
3. Four Transformations (Si Hua) - Hua Lu, Hua Quan, Hua Ke, and Hua Ji.
4. Auxiliary and Malefic Stars - Auxiliary stars such as Zuo Fu, You Bi, Wen Chang, Wen Qu, Tian Kui, and Tian Yue; malefic stars such as Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing, and Ling Xing.

Differences from BaZi

BaZi follows the generating and overcoming interactions of the Five Elements through the Heavenly Stem (Tian Gan) and Earthly Branch (Di Zhi), focusing on the macro-level evaluation of a person's life structure. Zi Wei Dou Shu, by contrast, is centered on stellar combinations and offers greater precision in the analysis of interpersonal relationships, nuances of personality, and the deduction of specific events. Combining the two allows for mutual verification, providing a more comprehensive destiny analysis.

Learning Path

Beginners are advised to start by studying the fourteen major stars to understand the fundamental traits of each, then proceed to learn the meanings of the twelve palaces, and finally delve into the Four Transformations alongside the deductions involving the major limit (Da Xian) and Annual Pillar (Liu Nian).
