Yan Zhenqing, courtesy name Qingchen, was a prominent statesman and calligrapher of the Tang dynasty. Renowned for his unwavering uprightness, he rendered meritorious service in resisting the An Lushan Rebellion and created the "Yan style" of calligraphy. He ultimately died as a martyr for his loyalty and was posthumously honored with the title Wenzhong. Through the lens of a BaZi (Ba Zi) chart, we can glimpse the profound connection between his character traits and his historical destiny.

BaZi Chart

Core Analysis

Yan Zhenqing's BaZi features a Jia Wood Day Master seated on Xu, with the Month Command being Jia Zi and the Hour Stem bearing Geng Wu. The overall chart presents a structure of a Hurting Officer (Shang Guan) paired with Resource and engaged in conflict with Seven Killings (Qi Sha). Although the Day Master receives support from Friend (Bi Jian) and Resource, it is simultaneously restrained by Earth and Metal, indicating a weak Day Master bearing heavy responsibilities. The concurrent presence of Indirect Wealth (Pian Cai) and Seven Killings signifies a variable official career, requiring courage and decisiveness to navigate dangers. When the Luck Pillars (Da Yun) progress through Ji Si, Geng Wu, and Xin Wei, the struggle for official position and power becomes even more pronounced. The Hurting Officer generating wealth in the chart aligns with the creativity of his calligraphic art, while the restraint of the Day Master by Seven Killings and the presence of an Indirect Officer reflect the conflicts and perseverance in his political career. Overall, the chart reveals a life trajectory of establishing one's name through righteousness and upholding the Way with moral integrity. His final destiny of receiving orders to pacify rebels and dying for his beliefs also corresponds to a pattern of Seven Killings clashing with Resource, and a weak Day Master bearing heavy burdens.

  4. Strong Endurance but Prone to Depletion: BaZi basis: Although the Day Master is weak, it bears the responsibilities of multiple Ten Gods (Shi Shen) (Friend, Resource, Seven Killings, Indirect Wealth), leading to mental and physical depletion from prolonged pressure and power struggles, increasing the danger to his life in his later years.
